MIT Stata Center
The Stata Center for Computer, Information and Intelligence Sciences is built on the site of MIT's legendary Building 20, a "temporary" timber-framed building constructed during World War II that served as a breeding ground for many of the great ideas that were born at MIT. Designed by renowned architect Frank O. Gehry, Stata is meant to carry on Building 20's innovative and serendipitous spirit, and to foster interaction and collaboration across many disciplines.

The public area outside the classrooms is open 24 hours a day, although the doors to this area will only be unlocked from 8:00-20:00. We pretty much have this whole area booked for the weekend, so campers can feel free to work late into the night in this non-classroom space if they want.

Power

Power outlets are few and far between (!) so if you plan on bringing a computer, it may be a good idea to also bring a power strip to share with others.

WiFi

The Stata Center, and all of MIT's campus, has a semi-open wifi network. If you are affiliated with MIT, you can just sign in. If you are not, you can sign in as a guest and you will have a wifi connection within 15 minutes.

MIT Campus

The 154-acre campus stretches more than a mile along the leafy Cambridge banks of the Charles River, literally minutes from the lively heart of Boston and of Cambridge itself. The central group of interconnecting buildings - sporting the domes and columns you may associate with MIT - was designed in 1916 by architect W. Welles Bosworth (Class of 1889). He chose an open, flowing, flexible floor plan to encourage easy communication and intellectual exchange among schools and departments. As MIT grew, it carried forward this idea of openness and linkage, so that now nearly all of our buildings are seamlessly connected to each other, allowing you to pass from one to another without ever stepping outside (an especially welcome feature in winter)..
